About

“Culture is a conversation, or else it is nothing but the holding up of mirrors to mirages, and we need to make our conversations more honest.”
—Joseph O’Connor

What
Missionary Confidential is an evangelical Christian blog that speaks about all the facets of missionary life.  This blog is a place where missionaries from all over the globe can discuss why there are lows, challenges and difficulties experienced in the field, from fundraising to communication back home.

Why
After five years in the mission field, it was startling to see the number of dewy-eyed missionaries that start out on fire to save souls but leave a short time later, themselves engulfed in hatred for the country and for further mission experiences, shame at their perceived “failure,” never to be heard from again (or, in one case, converted out of evangelicalism entirely). When I found that this wasn’t as unusual as I first thought, I wanted to discuss in a public arena why missionaries leave (and, more importantly, why missionaries stay). It is my hope that candid talk amongst missionaries will not only help those interested in mission work to have a fuller understanding of what comprises the missionary life, but that the missionaries themselves will find a common bond in their experiences.

Who
Lead writer C. Holland was a full-time missionary to Western Europe and lives in the Pacific Northwest.  Guest posts are welcomed.

Discussion is encouraged on the blog posts, but comments are moderated to remove the spam and keep things clean, respectful and on topic.
