Why Do So Many Missionaries Leave? Here’s a Thought…

January 24th, 2009 § 0 comments

If you’ve been reading this blog long enough, you’ll know that one of the consistent threads throughout the posts is missionaries leaving the field, mostly prematurely, almost always with much detriment to those left behind. Having been raised in a mission-sending church, we heard missionaries come through with their heroic stories, yet I had no idea so very many didn’t make it very long. Once I had been in the mission field for a while, I wasn’t sure if it’s just my particular area that tends to chew people up and spit them out. Evidently, it’s not.

So it was helpful to read this article, Telling The Truth About Missionary Training, by David Parker of Biblical School of World Evangelism. Though I am in no way affiliated with this group, and not all of our beliefs match up, it is an amazing article that hits right to the core of what we’ve witnessed in our area of evangelical missions. I especially appreciate the included C.T. Studd quote.
